Dr. Vinay Badhwar is the Gordon F. Murray Professor and Chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery of West Virginia University, and the Executive Chair of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute and Service Line in Morgantown, West Virginia. Dr. Badhwar completed his surgical residency at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and postgraduate cardiothoracic fellowship at the University of Ottawa, and additional fellowship in heart transplantation at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. From 2001-2011, Dr. Badhwar held numerous institutional leadership positions while practicing in Florida, while holding an academic appointment to the University of South Florida. From 2011 to 2016, Dr. Badhwar served as the Chief of Adult Cardiac Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Since 2016, Dr. Badhwar has led West Virginia University’s rapidly expanding cardiovascular and thoracic clinical and academic programs, including one of the most robust robotic programs in the United States. Dr. Badhwar is NIH funded, holds 7 patents, and he has contributed over 250 publications and 350 lectures worldwide. He has provided leadership contributions in national outcome optimization strategies in adult cardiac surgery, cardiac valve surgery innovation, surgical therapy for atrial fibrillation, and robotic cardiac surgery. Badhwar is a member of multiple professional organizations and holds several leadership roles in the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the American College of Cardiology, and serves as the Associate Editor of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
